
The main event of UFC 280 tonight includes a highly anticipated lightweight bout between Mateusz Gamrot and Beneil Dariush.
A seven-fight winning streak will precede the match for Dariush (22-4-1 MMA), whose most recent victory was a unanimous decision over Tony Ferguson at UFC 262.Prior to then, the 33-year-old had had defeated Carlos Diego Ferreira through split decision. This victory followed back-to-back knockout triumphs over Drakkar Klose and Scott Holtzman.
Mateusz Gamrot (21-2 MMA) comes into UFC 280 on a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming in a unanimous decision over Arman Tsarukyan in June. In his Octagon debut, “Gamer” lost his only fight of his professional career to Guram Kutateladze by split decision.

Dariush rolls for a heel hook before switching to the other leg for a kneebar. The struggle resumes on the ground after “Gamer” manages to flee. Dariush is being dragged back down by Gamrot, who has his back. Beneil tries to escape the hold, but Gamrot quickly closes in for another takedown. Breaking free, Beneil Dariush strikes the body with a kick. Mateusz Gamrot delivers a front kick that only connects partially. Round one is over when the horn blows.
The second round starts, as Dariush launches an ab-body kick. Mateusz Gamrot attempts to take down Beneil, but Beneil counters and circles away. Dariush strikes the body with a front kick. He attempts to overpower the Pole with a left hand but is successfully blocked by a superb right. Gamrot makes a takedown attempt, but Dariush keeps the fight upright. The fighters trade blows.
Beginning to find his range is Dariush. He makes a successful combo. ‘Gamer’ attempts a takedown, but Beneil blocks the attempt once more. He spins around and gives “Gamer” a good kick to the body. Beneil Dariush delivered yet another powerful kick. Gamrot receives a counterright hand that lands. At the final horn, he attempts a takedown and successfully completes it.
In the opening seconds of the third and final round of this lightweight contest at UFC 280, Mateusz Gamrot launches a takedown attempt. After making a defence, Beneil Dariush knees the doorway. Dariush now delivers a powerful low kick. ‘Gamer’ kicks high and misses. Beneil attempts a left over the top but misses. He scores with a subsequent right hand. The seasoned veteran made a nice straight left. Gamrot must take action in this situation. He attempts a takedown, but Beniel Dariush is once again outstanding in his defence. Gamrot is dropped by Dariush’s powerful left. The Pole is standing up now, but that was a serious blow. With just over a minute left, “Gamer” scores a short left. He dives in with a knee that flys. When the brawl spills to the ground, there is another frenzied rush. Dariush manages to escape Gamrot’s attempt to choke him and rises to his feet. To end the fight, he lands another left.
